The Supreme Court (SC) has stayed an order by the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) which directed Yash Raj Films Pvt Ltd to pay an amount of INR 10,000 along with litigation costs to an individual who felt cheated that a song was excluded by a song in Shah Rukh Khan’s Fan. The complainant, Afreen Fatima Zaidi, had decided to watch Fan with her family members after watching promotional videos for the movie.
Yash Raj Films Pvt Ltd had filed an appeal in the SC challenging the NCDRC which decided to uphold the State Commission’s 2017 direction to make certain monetary compensation to Afreen Fatima Zaidi. The promos that Zaidi and her family had watched had the song Jabra Fan in it but when she watched the movie, the song was missing. The complainant, Zaidi, felt cheated and deceived and approached the District Forum and sought compensation and also sought a directive that the song should be aired with the notice that it was not included in the movie.
